When business leader and philanthropist Arthur M. Blank gives, he gives with purpose. The founder of The Home Depot and owner of the Atlanta Falcons is once again making a major impact — this time through a $50 million donation to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
The funds, distributed through the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, are aimed at strengthening the educational pipeline, removing financial barriers, and creating lasting opportunities for thousands of students.

The donation will support Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, and Spelman College, all based in Atlanta. A significant portion of the funds will be used for gap scholarships — financial aid designed to help students who are close to graduating but face unexpected costs that could keep them from completing their degrees.
This initiative is expected to assist nearly 10,000 students, ensuring that financial hardship doesn’t stand in the way of their future. It’s one of the largest single gifts made to HBCUs in Georgia and reflects Blank’s deep commitment to equity and access.
Blank’s investment in HBCUs extends beyond scholarships. In recent years, his foundation has provided:
These efforts ensure that students don’t just receive financial support in the classroom — they also benefit from safer, more modern athletic environments.
Arthur Blank’s philanthropy has long focused on transformative change, and this gift is no exception. By combining educational support, infrastructure investment, and a vision for equity, his foundation is helping ensure that talented students can cross the finish line — and that HBCUs continue to thrive for generations to come.
This isn’t just a donation. It’s an investment in potential, legacy, and the future of Black excellence.
