Prime Video’s eight-episode event explores the life, relationships and convictions behind one of the world’s most recognizable sporting icons.
“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”
Few words capture Muhammad Ali’s combination of confidence, charisma and competitive spirit quite like that famous phrase. Now, his story is returning to the screen in The Greatest, starring Jaalen Best as Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali. Prime Video has released the official trailer ahead of the series’ November 4, 2026 premiere, when all eight episodes will become available in more than 240 countries and territories.
The series follows a young man from Louisville as he becomes a heavyweight champion and develops the convictions that help make him a cultural force. Its story encompasses the personal, professional and political challenges surrounding that transformation, placing his pursuit of identity alongside his achievements in the ring.
That approach gives the project an intriguing central question: how do you tell the story of someone whose public image became larger than life? Ali’s confidence and gift for commanding attention are essential to his appeal. A series has room to explore the relationships, uncertainty and private decisions behind that extraordinary presence.
Amazon describes The Greatest as the first authorized scripted series about Ali’s life. His widow, Lonnie Ali, serves as an executive producer, and the production received access to his estate. The announced focus includes his experiences as a husband, father, brother and son, alongside the sporting milestones audiences already associate with his name.
Best leads a supporting cast that includes Omari Hardwick as Cassius Clay Sr., Dana Gourrier as Odessa “Bird” Clay, Amin Joseph as Sonny Liston, Michael Ealy as Malcolm X and Giovanni Ribisi as trainer Angelo Dundee. Ben Watkins serves as creator, showrunner and executive producer. The production also brings together Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society and Roc Nation, with Shawn Carter among the executive producers.
For viewers drawn to sports, history and character-driven drama, the promise lies in watching those elements meet. Boxing provides the stakes of each contest; Ali’s relationships and convictions give the story its broader meaning.
The Greatest premieres November 4 on Prime Video. Watch the official trailer and explore the series announcement.
