Marvel Studios has officially revealed the next hero to carry one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most iconic mantles. During its highly anticipated Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, director Ryan Coogler introduced British actor David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, confirming months of fan speculation and launching an exciting new chapter for Wakanda.

Rather than recasting the late Chadwick Boseman’s King T’Challa, Marvel is continuing the legacy through the next generation. Jonsson will portray T’Challa’s adult son, a character first introduced as a young child at the conclusion of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The story will follow the young prince’s coming-of-age journey as he embraces the responsibility of protecting Wakanda and honoring his father’s legacy.

Since Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020, Marvel Studios has consistently stated that it would not recast his portrayal of T’Challa. Marvel also confirmed that Black Panther III is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2028.
